Lieutenant Commander

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

After trying for the last three months to gain the next PvP rank in World of Warcraft I have finally done it. I am not rank 10 or Lieutenant commander and have now completed my Lieutenant PvP armor set. It has been a hard slog to get there as you I needed to get about 200k honor to only go up a quarter of the rank. There have been a few reasons it has take so long to get the rank. I have been unable to string enough good honor weeks together to have my position in the rank change much thisĀ  has happened as I have been going on guild raids most nights which take up most of the playing time and I have had some distractions in real life. I have over the last few weeks made a special effort to try and get the rank as in the up and coming 2.0 patch Blizzard is changing the way PvP is done and they will be setting everyones rank to either nothing or to Private. This is a pity as all of the people who have gridded their way up the ranks may never get to their desired rank. The new system however may make it possible to purchase all of the Marshal gear all of which will become of less use when the Burning crusades comes out as all of the loot that drops in the instances in the burning crusade are of a higher level than even the current tier 3 gear. This all mean we are in a interesting time in the near future and I will keep you all posted on what is happening and my impressions.

After running this blog for the four months or so I have started to get spam comments to posts. It is from one of those pharmacy website that various Drugs as cheap prices. Now I am all in favour for any business on the Internet to advertise their products but as long as it is done through legal and with permission. If you do have something genuine to say about one of my posts feel free to post it and I will most likely approve it but if it is just spam it will be deleted immediately.

A side note if anyone who has a Blog or knows some good Blogs that relate to mine, I would like to add them to my Blogroll as all of the current ones are the default ones that come with Wordpress. And if anyone has any suggestions for posts feel free to contact me.

Firefox 2

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

A few weeks ago Firefox 2 was released and I thought I would highlight the changes in this new version and give you my impressions from using it. First off the interface has been given a face lift with nothing really changed but more of an update of the icons. Here Is a list of all of the changes and added features in the new version. Built-in phishing protection, Enhanced search capabilities, Improved tabbed browsing, Resuming your browsing session, Previewing and subscribing to Web feeds, Inline spell checking, Live Titles, Improved Add-ons manager, JavaScript 1.7, Extended search plugin format, Updates to the extension system, Client-side session and persistent storage, SVG text, New Windows installer. For a more information about the changes and additions take a look at the Firefox website.

Of all of the new features I have found the resuming your browsing session the most usefull as it alows you to continue where you left off browsing the previous browsing session. This feature has been available in the Opera browser for the last few years and so I applaud the programmers for including this feature in Firefox 2. I have however found that it does not allways recover from where you last were browsing especially when you close Firefox and the open it again without restarting the computer.

I have kept one computer with Firefox 1.5 here so I could do a comparison and found the there was an update for it after Firefox 2 was released so It would appear that it will be continued to be supported for a while until a majority of users and extension makers upgrade to the new version.

As I have previously stated I would recommend you download Firefox and try it yourself as you will get a faster, safer and more pleasant browsing experience than with Internet Explorer.

Xbox 360 Vision

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Today I bought myself the recently released Xbox 360 Live Vision from BigW for $58.85 (rrp $59.95). The Xbox 360 Live Vision is essentially a web cam for you Xbox 360 which you can use on an PC but you can not use a normal web cam on the 360. The Vision has been created to provide competition to the Playstation 2’s Eye Toy. So far the Vision is only usable in 2 games ( Uno and Totemball ) and for taking pictures to use as you gamer tag avatar. There are a whole lot more games in development that use the Vision of which some will allow you to capture you face and put in on a character in game. I havetried it out using the free Totem ball game and found the the controling of the Totem ball was quite easy but I found my shoulders got sore quickly from playing it. The package includes the Vision camera, an Xbox live headset, 1 month gold Xbox live membership and a code to unlock the full version of the Xbox Live Arcade game Uno. I do recommend all 360 owners to purchase it as It will allow for more game play options but as there are only 2 games that use it yet I would wait until more come out.
